Vantaan voimisteluseura is organizing this years Finnish street dance championships in Vantaa, Energia-Areena 17-18th of mayo 2014. This years judges are: Heidi Hartzell (FIN), Kaisa Nieminen (FIN), Niko Haikala (FIN), Julian Owusu (FIN), Yeya (SWE), Rob-1 (SWE), Brooke Milliner (UK) and Byron Cox (USA).

Where it all began -->

I have been working in Vantaan voimisteluseura for 5 years as a dance teacher for Rascalz. I started as a choreographer for hip hop small groups for adults and juniors with Anna. This was year 2009.

We were just kids practicing and teaching for the fun of it. Couple of years went by and our students started to do really well in the FDO- competition and we started to leave our mark every year we would compete. The last couple of years we have been fortuned to have a lot of dancers coming in just because they seen us dancing in the competitions.

We have a Adult +31 Hip Hop formation which Lilli gathered two years ago. Now days we have four formations in all age groups, small groups in juniors and in adults. We also have students doing their own choreography, teaching, freestyling etc.

It's been a journey a really good one and now we have got the point where we now have the chance to organize the biggest dance event in Finland.

VVS is organizing their first street championship event this year in Myyrmäki, Vantaa. I am super proud to have this event in my home town. I never could imagine that this day would come. That's why i would like to thank the team because all of them are volunteering and doing this for our dance community: Marko aka The Boss, Anna Kosonen aka The Boss Lady, Maaret (graphics, marketing), Lilli Huttula (media), Aki (finance), Tiina and Outi ( food and accommodations), Minna, Kirsi and Mari (marketing), Vaula, Tanja, Seppo etc.

These are the parents of the dancer who are working day and night for this event to be successful.

Anna Kosonen and Lilli Huttula, my colleagues my good friends are also in a huge role and have done so much for VVS and for this event <3

Couple of months a go i came up with an idea of shooting a promo video for Street SM 2014 event. I wrote the script and directed the video. Maaret and Pasi were in charge of the cameras and Vantaan kauhut danced their asses of. The video will be out by the end of this month.

The nick name "Vantaan Kauhut aka The terror of Vantaa" was given to us couple of years ago by my mentor and dance teacher Anniina Jääskeläinen. The name gave us so much power and the feeling of fellowship that's one of the reasons we are still using the name. It brings all of the dancers together under the same umbrella.

We are one big happy family.

We started shooting in Helsinki railway station

and then we took the train to Myyrmäki, Vantaa

The biggest street dance weekend of the year gets a worthy ending. The party is served by EachOneTeachHelsinki ry, the venue, Soul B, is full of feeling and the music is selected and served to you by DJ DPsoul.

Price:
5 euros with the competitor bracelet
7 euros without the bracelet

Tickets will be sold at the door and in advance during the competition.

EachOneTeachHelsinki ry (EOTH) has been organizing events and workshops since 2012. We have brought well-known dancers from Europe, UK and USA to give workshops. EOTH has been creating new concept battles for examples: EOTH Artsy Battles and Call Out Battles.

This has connected people together despite their own dance style. Our goal is to develop the urban dance scene in Finland.

EOTH's Call Out Battle was organized for the second time this year, and we aim for it to become an annual dance event. The concept is that everyone can choose their own battle opponent despite the dance style the person is representing. You can call out 1 vs 1, 2 vs 2 and crews. There are no judges and thus no winners or losers. However the best run of the evening will be rewarded!
