Street SM 2014 Preselection x Voguing Vamps

Exactly a week ago Finnish dance organization held its annual street championship preselection in Helsinki. The competed categories were: woman's solo, Duos, Hip hop small groups (both adults and juniors) and Showcase.

Me and my colleague Anneli Ninja Kanninen had the chance to do a voguing showcase for a group called Voguing Vamps. Previous years the choreographer was Virpi Kurki aka our vogue mom.

The project started at the end of 2013. Me and Anneli were super excited to work together and even more excited to work with these AMAZING LADIES! This group of women are if you can say the wonder woman's of Finland. Despite the fact that the average age of this group is 45, these ladies have more balls than most of you guys. They are sassy, classy sometimes a bit nasty. Let me introduce you to the one only VOGUING VAMPS <3

The idea for the showcase came to us when we went to see a Dragshow called Showhat! Jarkko Valtee and Osku Heiskanen impersonated almost 50 different woman in their 2 hour show.

The result was this --> Cher, Britney Spears, Madonna, Beyonce, Lady Gaga and Sini Sabotage

Voguing Vamps snatched the 8th place and made it to the finals for the first time. This is also a first time when a +31 group makes it to the finals of showcase category. WE MADE HISTORY!

Finnish Street Championships will be held in Vantaa, Myyrmäki 17-18th of may.

After a long day of dancing and cheering it was time for some food and drinks

EOTH in Vogue 16.03.2014

Last sunday EeachOneTeachHelsinki ry organized a event called EOTH in vogue. We as a vogue dancers felt like we need more smaller events and battles in Helsinki. Couple a years ago the scene was growing really fast it was the "Thing" to do. Everybody wanted to learn voguing. But after year or a two people started to disappear from the classes. I heard people saying shit like " It get's boring" or " It's easy" and so on. Now we are at a point where there is maybe handful of people who stayed active. Shout out to the House of Milan (Jenni and Lilli) and The House of Ninja and The House of Ultra Omni for keep in it real.

We need to get better and stronger together!

Our biggest goal is to have a active scene that would start growing and evolving to the next level.

I hope that all the Vogue dancers that didn't show up last time come to the next event and show their support.

The lack of participants changed the hole battle concept to another level.

We decided that all the judges will compete and give feedback to one another. After every round we would go thru what happened and what could be done better. We talked a lot about different elements and categories, performing and battle techniques. It obviously helped a lot and i even remember one of the dancers saying that "I've never been given so much feedback". I think we accomplished a lot even though there weren't many of us.

I would like to thank everybody who showed up! It really means a lot. Even though this event wasn't in a club or if you can say in a "real" environment it was really important for us.
